ARE WE SAFE? RESIDENTS OF TESHIE-AGBLEZAA ON HIGH ALERT, AS BIKER RELATED THEFTS SURGE.

ACCRA, GHANA – Residents of Teshie-Agblezaa, a community in the Adenta Municipality, are living in fear as a wave of motorbike-related thefts has hit the area. The thefts, which often involve individuals on motorbikes, have left many residents counting their losses and questioning their safety.

According to multiple reports from residents, the thefts typically occur in the early hours of the morning or late at night. The thieves, often riding in pairs on motorbikes, target individuals who are either walking alone, driving in their cars with windows down, or using their phones in public. The thieves snatch bags, mobile phones, and other valuables before speeding off.

"I was walking home from work around 10 PM when two guys on a motorbike rode past me and snatched my handbag," recounted a victim who wished to remain anonymous. "They were so fast, I didn't even see their faces. All my money and my phone were in that bag."

The crime wave is not limited to snatch and grab incidents. There have also been reports of motorbikes being stolen directly from residential compounds. The thieves, believed to be part of a larger group, reportedly use sophisticated tools to break steering locks and hot-wire bikes.

The situation has prompted a strong reaction from residents, who are now taking their own measures to enhance security. Some have resorted to installing extra security locks on their gates and motorbikes, while others are avoiding walking alone at night. There have been calls for increased police patrols in the area to deter the criminals.

The Teshie Police Station has acknowledged the increase in reported cases and stated that they are taking steps to address the issue. A police spokesperson, Officer Philip, mentioned that, the police are working with community leaders to create a neighborhood watch program and are actively pursuing leads to apprehend the culprits.

The recent arrests of a key suspect and his network in connection with a string of motorbike thefts across the capital offer a glimmer of hope. The police have linked the culprits to at least 12 motorbike thefts in neighborhoods including Madina, Adenta, Lapaz, and Teshie. While Agblezaa was not specifically named in the police report, residents believe the operations of this and other similar thieves are responsible for the crime surge in their community.

The police have urged the public to be extra vigilant, properly secure their property, and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station. As the community of Agblezaa struggle with this new threat, the residents hope that, the police's efforts will soon bring an end to their ordeal and restore a sense of safety to their streets.
